BBI Zeneris

On 1 October 2006, ZENERIS S.A. launched a research and analytical biotechnological laboratory. The Laboratory provides services for BBI ZENERIS NFI S.A. and BIOGAZ ZENERIS Sp. z o.o. The Laboratory is seated at the Incubator of Chemical Technologies of the Poznań Scientific and Technological Park at the Adam Mickiewicz University Foundation at 46 Rubież Street in Poznań.

Completed studies

The Laboratory has been established to conduct studies on the optimization of physical and chemical conditions of methane fermentation based on organic matter of various origin (mainly food industry and agricultural waste). The conducted research is of application nature and its results provide guidelines on how to control the methane fermentation process in biogas power plants, supplementing the high-methane production technology formulated by the company.

By Decision of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (no. 04083/C.P01-IT1/2007) of 30 November 2007, ZENERIS S.A. (at present BBI ZENERIS NFI S.A.) was awarded funds to co-finance a research project: Feasibility study on the use of organic waste from the food and agricultural industry for the production of high-methane biogas conducted as part of the 1st Technological Initiative program. The time schedule of the project includes the completion of six tasks from 1 November 2008 to 30 April 2012. The main objective of the project is to select bio-technological parameters for effective, and thus profitable, production of high-methane biogas based on the most onerous organic waste from Polish food industry and farming. The research will be finalized with a technological concept and a complete technological documentation for a biogas system.
 
Laboratory Services

A part of the Laboratory that is managed by BIOGAZ ZENERIS Sp. z o.o. provides comprehensive research and analytical services in the following areas:

• Testing of physical and chemical properties of substrates intended for the production of biogas and post-fermentation remains;

• Testing of the so-called biogas profitability, i.e. determining the productivity of biogas and methane from biomass;

• Optimization of methane fermentation of a substrate or a mixture of co-substrates;

• Quantitative and qualitative analysis of biogas;

• Biotechnological control over conditions and the course of methane fermentation process in a biogas power plat.

A majority of analytical methods used in the laboratory comes from standards or instructions attached to analytical tests of MERCK or Marcherey-Nagel (NANOCOLOR). Some analyses however are made based on in-house procedures, constituting the laboratory’s know-how.
